The CCO is a local, amateur orchestra that encourages musicians of all ages and skill levels to enjoy their hobby and art in a relaxed, social atmosphere. We perform throughout the county at events and social gatherings with objective of making a contribution to communities and charities.

The CCO is registered with the Charity Commission and HMRC Gift Aid. The CCO is a 'not for profit' organisation and any funding we receive is used to provide non subscription fees for students, those between jobs, to purchase music and to fund our hall lease and musical director fee.

The CCO Story

Take a closer look at the best amateur orchestra in Pembrokeshire

The CCO owes it origins to a group of musicians who played trio and quartet music in 1993. Soon news of this small group of string players become known and many more musicians joined their ranks. In 1994 the group out-grew the home they played at and moved into a hall provided by Pembrokeshire College. The Preseli Orchestra (PO) was formed and continued to grow. The orchestra performed at many venues over the county for many years and moved the rehearsal venue to the old Prendergast Primary School, Haverfordwest in 1998.

However, over the years many members left the area or retired and as a consequence the Preseli Orchestra numbers dwindled and finances become problematic. Also, musical directors came and went and there seemed a lack of continuity. Additionally rehearsals venues become an issue as the old Prendergast school was demolished to make way for the new school.

In 2008 the decision was made to change the name to the Cleddau Music Makers (CMM). The intention was to try and broaden the appeal to a wider spectrum of musicians. The term orchestra was believed to sound too grandiose. However, it made little change to the publicity of the orchestra.

In 2015 the orchestra was renamed the Cleddau Chamber Orchestra. The name clearly identified the group as to what it was about and made a significant impact to our publicity.

Following the move to Johnston CP School and under the enthusiastic baton of Mark Jones the orchestra has grown and prospered. Membership has increased  and our musical ambitions have significantly developed. We have also opened our doors to six formers and local college students so they expand their musical experience and enjoyment.
